Shane traveled on his paddleboard 41 miles in the snow, rain, and hail from Fall City, WA to Snohomish, WA at the end of November. Watch the SUP endurance training vlog to find out what that looked like. Then, check out his “prep video” on how he made sure he was safe and ready to tackle the weather while keeping up his energy to tackle the seven hour paddle.
The make it all happen, Shane was on his Imagine Connector DLX. It’s a 14 foot inflatable SUP. The majority of his paddleboard gear is made by NRS including his NRS paddle and dry bags. Shane paddled without music and only stopped briefly to say hi to his family when he reached Duvall and again to eat a quick lunch to go.
To track his SUP endurance training, Shane used Paddle Logger. Keeping rack of his paddleboard sessions helps him improve and have an idea of how long it would take him on his next big trip. If you watched the paddle prep video (below) you know Shane’s real goal is to paddle from Fall City to Everett.

In the video Shane mentions that while the weather was cold (as was the water), the benefit of paddleboarding in the winter is that the Snoqualmie and Snohomish Rivers were running faster than if he were to go during the summer when we experience lower water levels.
To stay warm Shane wore multiple layers, explaining in the vlog that he was more worried about overheating than being too cold. If he were to fall in he brought multiple changes of clothes in a dry bag along with a first aid kit that contained “enough stuff to survive spending the night.”
